The tiny, sticky crystals that cover the cannabis flower are called kief (also known as dry sift or pollen). Kief refers to the resin glands which contain the terpenes and cannabinoids that make each strain of cannabis so unique. While marijuana stripped of kief still contains cannabinoids, the resin glands that develop on flower buds pack the biggest punch. Kief is the starting point for many concentrates. For instance, hash is kief that has been heated and pressurized. Kief can be sprinkled over cannabis bud – in a pipe or joint – to boost the potency of the smoke.
